Mission Ahava: Providing Hope to At-Risk Children

Around the world, millions of children are homeless or classified as street children, meaning they either spend the majority of their time on the street or live there. With such instability comes a variety of dangers and risks for these children.

The Danger

Brazil has roughly 8 million street and homeless children, and 1 in 2 children in Cambodia have suffered emotional or physical abuse. The exact number of children suffering in these countries remains unknown. Many of these kids end up on the streets because of lack of familial support as well as early childhood abandonment, inevitably continuing a dangerous cycle of poverty.

Once absorbed into this life, children are at risk for things such as sex and drug trafficking, forced child labor and potential gang involvement and violence. Children often fall prey to the schemes of drug lords and become tangled in networks of crime and violence. But the danger does not stop there. These kids are often hungry and malnourished without access to proper medical care. This can lead to serious health complications and consequences.

While living on the streets, these children receive hardly any education, leading to almost no opportunities for jobs as an adult. Once they have children of their own, the cycle of poverty continues.

The Hope

Mission Ahava understands the power and potential the children of our world have. We know that when given the chances and resources they deserve, they have the opportunity to thrive. This is why we take a holistic approach to the work we do with our children in Brazil and Cambodia. Beyond just physical needs, we work to provide an empowering environment to encourage their educational, spiritual and emotional growth.

Throughout our two campaigns in Brazil and Cambodia, our children get involved in different community organizations and local churches. We are proud to partner with the Instituto Solid Rock Brasil and Sending Hope Cambodia, who we have helped to provide food, shelter, education and hope to our rescued kids.

We also encourage our children to develop their communication and career skills to start building the foundation for a successful future. They are able to begin learning in primary school while at our orphanages, and eventually can progress their skills at a local technical school, learning industry trades. We maintain strong relationships with local businesses and have worked to build a career pipeline for our children to be hired once they leave our vocational school. Beyond the classroom, many of our children take part in activities at our local community centers, building relationships, along with athletic and artistic skills.

Mission Ahava also knows the importance of looking after our children after they leave our care. Our staff continue to mentor and support them as they reach adulthood to further grow in their faith and identity. We are proud to have helped thousands of children from Brazil and Cambodia flourish in a new, beautiful life.

We are able to provide all that we do with the support of our financial partners around the globe. Learn more about how you can change the life of a child forever.
